CONTINUOUS THEMES
Stuff like relationships, fragility of the human psyche, our mortal nature (and our unwillingness to grasp that fact) interest me. These issues lock into identity and our use of language. This is what I do: translate these things in sculptural form.
EXPERIENCE, MATERIALS
In 1987 I completed my B.A. Fine Arts Hons degree at Free State University and then I taught art for a year in Qwa-Qwa at a school. In 1989 I came to live on a farm in the Karoo, near Philipstown. For the past 21 years I have been making sculptures here in the desert and it taught me to work with what I have (building cement from the local coop and ‘scrap’ like tin, bottles etc.) I also use papier-mâché, clay, wood and textiles.
